Apple Maps ratings: what a business can do

Short version, checked October 2026: there is no way for a business to reply to an Apple Maps rating. Apple Business Connect lets you claim your place card, edit hours, photos and actions, and publish Showcases, but it has no response tool, and Apple's native rating is a thumbs up or down with no text to answer. The written reviews on an Apple Maps place card come from Yelp for most US listings and from Tripadvisor for hotels, restaurants and attractions. Those are answered on Yelp and Tripadvisor; Apple shows the rating and the review text, and the full thread, including your reply, is one tap away on the source platform.

So this page is not six replies you will never post. It is what a business can actually do: claim and clean up the place card so the ratings sit next to accurate information, answer the source-platform reviews Apple shows with the Maps reader in mind, use Showcases to say what changed, and ask customers for a thumbs-up without offering anything for it. If Apple adds a reply feature, this page will change. We would rather tell you that than invent a template for a box that doesn't exist.

Apple Maps and Business Connect platform notes

Checked 2026-10-20. None of Apple's own pages were readable from our build environment, so every fact below comes from search excerpts of third-party 2026 guides, which agree with each other and are labelled as such. If Business Connect shows you a reply option these notes say does not exist, trust the screen.

The templates

Replace every [BRACKETED_PLACEHOLDER] with your specifics before posting - an unedited template is worse than no response.

Reply on Yelp to a negative review that Apple Maps is showing

Hi [CUSTOMER_NAME], this is [YOUR_NAME], [ROLE] at [BUSINESS_NAME]. You're right about [SPECIFIC_ISSUE], and I'm sorry. Since your visit we've [CONCRETE_CHANGE], and [DATE] was the last day that problem could have happened. I've sent you a message here so we can make it right directly, or you can reach me at [PHONE].

For anyone reading this on Maps before they come in: [ONE_LINE_CURRENT_STATE, e.g. “we're open until 9 and the patio is back”]. - [YOUR_NAME]

Management Response on Tripadvisor for a review Apple shows (hotels, restaurants, attractions)

Thank you, [GUEST_NAME]. [THING_THEY_PRAISED] is the part of [PROPERTY_NAME] we work hardest on, and [STAFF_FIRST_NAME] will be glad to be mentioned. If you're back in [CITY], contact the property directly before you book and ask for me; I'll make sure the [ROOM_OR_TABLE] you liked is yours. - [YOUR_NAME], [ROLE], [PROPERTY_NAME]

Showcase post after fixing a recurring complaint

[HEADLINE, e.g. “New: no-wait pickup counter”]

[WHAT_CHANGED_IN_ONE_SENTENCE, e.g. “Order ahead and your coffee is on the counter under your name, no queue.”] [ONE_DETAIL, e.g. “Weekdays from 7am at [LOCATION].”] [CALL_TO_ACTION, e.g. “Tap Order to try it.”]

[Keep it to the complaint you actually fixed. A Showcase that answers the thing people kept marking you down for is the only business-authored text on the card.]

Asking a customer for an Apple Maps thumbs-up (text or email, no incentive)

Hi [CUSTOMER_NAME], thanks for coming in today. If you use Apple Maps, a thumbs-up on our place card helps people nearby find us: search for [BUSINESS_NAME] in Maps and tap the thumbs-up on our card. It takes a few seconds, and we don't offer anything in return; we just appreciate it. If anything wasn't right, reply to this message instead and I'll fix it. - [YOUR_NAME], [BUSINESS_NAME]

Review caused by a wrong place card (hours or pin were off on Apple Maps)

Hi [CUSTOMER_NAME], I'm sorry you made the trip and found us closed; that one is on us. Our hours on Apple Maps were wrong, and I've corrected them in Business Connect today, so the card now shows [CORRECT_HOURS]. If you'd like to try again, call [PHONE] before you head over and I'll make sure we're ready for you. - [YOUR_NAME], [ROLE], [BUSINESS_NAME]

Do

  • Claim the place card in Apple Business Connect first; an unclaimed card with wrong hours produces the one-star reviews you then can't answer anywhere.
  • Answer the Yelp and Tripadvisor reviews Apple shows with the Maps reader in mind: one line of current state at the end, because they're deciding whether to come in right now.
  • Use Showcases for what changed; it's the only business-authored text on the card, so it's where your side of a recurring complaint lives.
  • Check Business Connect every quarter for a ratings or reviews section; if Apple adds a reply tool, this page is out of date and the Apple-native reply beats a syndicated one.

Don't

  • Don't offer anything for a thumbs-up; incentive rules on reviews don't stop applying because the rating has no text.
  • Don't answer Apple Maps ratings on your website or in a Google reply (“to whoever gave us a thumbs-down on Apple Maps...”); nobody can connect the two and it reads as grievance.
  • Don't assume Google reviews carry over; they don't appear on Apple Maps, so a strong Google profile does nothing for the Apple card.
  • Don't leave the Yelp page unclaimed because you dislike Yelp; it's the text Apple Maps shows for most US businesses.
